Famiglia sassarese di origine catalana le cui notizie risalgono al secolo XVI. I Ruiz furono ammessi allo stamento militare nel 1558 durante il Parlamento Madrigal. Un Michele colonnello di fanteria, morì combattendo nelle Fiandre nel 1600. Suo nipote, un altro Michele. fu sergente maggiore del capo di Sassari e Logudoro nonchè governatore di Alghero nel 1706; durante le guerre di successione fu tra i più fieri sostenitori di Filippo V, per cui fu imprigionato, ebbe i beni confiscati e dovette fuggire in Spagna, dove morì. Suo fratello Antonio combattè anch'egli contro gli Asburgo. Della famiglia non si hanno più notizie dal secolo XIX. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile famiglia di Palermo. Altra famiglia alzò per arma. D'oro, al leone di rosso, rampante contro un albero sradicato di verde; e la bordura di rosso, caricata di dieci crocette di S. Andrea d'oro.
