Figurarono già investiti del "gran peso" o "peso grosso" della città di Torino e di altri diritti di naviglio e di pedaggio fino dal secolo XV. Così nel 1497 per mano del duca Filippo II di Savoia; così nel 1499 per mano del giovane duca Filiberto II il Bello; così nel 1563 per mano del duca Emanuele Filiberto, il grande restauratore della monarchia di Savoia. Il privilegio perdurò fino alla vigilia dell'abolizione del feudalismo, ed era conferito colla consegna della spada, attributo di nobiltà e di giurisdizione. La linea primogenita si estinse con Carlo, cavaliere mauriziano, il quale, con testamento del 12 agosto 1816, nominava erede universale il cugino Giovanni Battista, avo del vivente avv. Carlo riconosciuto nel titolo trasmissibile di nobile con Decr. Pres. 9 dicembre 1925. La famiglia ha diritto alla successione Zoelli, conti di Ceresole e Palermo, come discendente da Emilia Zoelli, moglie del vassallo Giovanni Battista
