Di origine fiesolana, fu ammessa alle magistrature fin dai primi tempi del governo popolare, e dal 1297 al 1342 ottenne otto volte il priorato ed una la suprema dignità di gonfaloniere di giustizia. Messser Giovanni di Rustichello fu spedito ad Empoli nel 1312 per trovarsi con gli oratori di Lucca, di Siena e di Bologna onde concertare il modo di resistere ad Enrico VII. Francesco, suo figlio, essendo priore nel 1342, tentò ogni mezzo per impedire al Duca d'Atene di erigersi in tiranno dei Fiorentini. Altro ramo. Nobile ed antica famiglia, le cui prime memorie rimontano al 1340. Francesco nel 1510 militò sotto il conte di Pitigliano e Bartolomeo d'Alviano; poi fu capitano di fanteria sotto Renzo da Ceri, quindi capitano in Piemonte al servizio di Carlo Duca di Savoia, finalmente passato in Francia servì il re Francesco I.
