Ist nach einem Merkmal des Hauses, zu mittelhochdeutsch soller, sölre gleich Laube am Haus, Gang im Oberstock, aus dem lateinischen solarium gleich Sonnenplatz. Der ziemlich häufige Familienname ist schwer von Sohler zu scheiden, da mittelhochdeutsch sol dieselbe Quantität hat wie solre. Sölr.
