Antica famiglia siciliana, detta Sabatino o Sabatini, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel nome medioevale "Sabbatinus", appartenuto, probabilmente, ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. In ogni modo, tal famiglia, come ben giusta il Mugnos, ha goduto nobiltà in Palermo, Messina e Randazzo. Un Andrea fu senatore in Palermo nel 1325-26; un fra Pietro è iscritto nella mastra nobile del Mollica (lista XIII, anno 1599); un Giovan Francesco e un Simone, fratelli, con privilegio dato a 9 marzo 1638, ottennero la concessione di un titolo di barone per ciascuno; un Simone fu senatore popolare in Palermo nel 1647-48. Alla famiglia, inoltre, pervenne il il titolo di principe di Santa Margherita, per successione di don Aloisio Giacomo.
