Molti sono gli autori che di questa famiglia ne' parlano: il Minutoli, l'Inveges, il Mugnos e altri raccolti dal Palizzolo Gravina nel suo "Il Blasone in Sicilia", ossia Raccolta Araldica, stampato in Palermo nel 1871-75. Pare essere originaria della Sicilia, donde ebbe dimora nelle città di Palermo, Messina e Randazzo. Baroni di Maletto, hanno goduto nobiltà in Messina nei secoli XIV, XV e XVI. Un Andrea fu senatore in Palermo nel 1325-26; un fra Pietro è iscritto nella mastra nobile del Mollica (lista XIII, anno 1599); un Giovan Francesco e un Simone, fratelli, con privilegio dato a 9 marzo 1638 ottennero la concessione di un titolo di barone per ciascuno; un Simone fu senatore popolare in Palermo nel 1647-48. Che i membri della famiglia Sabbatino siano noncuranti delle cose volgari, ripromettendosi dalle sole loro energie la dovuta ricompensa, lo provano i documenti fino ad oggi conosciuti come il Dizionario
