Famiglia bresciana che nel 500 esercitò con fortuna la mercataura e ne trasse ricchezza ed importanza. Sembra che la famiglia si chiamasse dapprima "De Zuppellis", così come appaiono negli estimi tra il 1434 ed il 1469, un Giovanni e suo figlio Pietro. Un Giovanni Gherardo, di Pietro "De Zambellis", detto anche "De Sabellis", viveva tra il 1435 ed il 1485 in Calvisano, in provincia di Brescia poi, forse in seguito ai gravi avvenimenti che turbarono la vita bresciana sul principio del `500, troviamo in Travagliato un Vincenzo, q. Bernardo, q. Gherardo, il quale nell'estimo 1534 sarà presente in Brescia, nella parrocchia di S. Giovanni. Da Vincenzo (nato nel 1506) in poi, la famiglia visse sempre più migliorando la propria posizione sociale sino ad essere ammessa nel 1740 al Consiglio Generale della nobiltà bresciana.
