Nombre romano, originado en los sabinos, tribu rival de Roma. San Sabino, obispo de Placencia, vivió en el siglo IV. Fue compañero de San Ambrosio, obispo de Milán, quien sometía sus escritos a su aprobación. Obispo de Espoleto, que con sus diáconos Exuperancio y Marcelo sufrió el martirio en tiempos de Diocleciano. Conmemoración el 30 de diciembre. Santa Sabina, dama italiana de la provincia de Umbría, fue convertida al cristianismo por su esclava santa Serapia. Ambas fueron martirizadas. Sabina, hacia el año 127; Serapia, unos años antes. La Iglesia celebre su fiesta el 29 de agosto. Santa Sabina, san Vicente y santa Cristera son recordados especialmente en Ávila. Apellido canario. Uno de sus más ilustres representantes, fue Don Santiago S., nacido en Santa Cruz de Tenerife el año 1893. Fue un destacado músico, autor de la Opera Nelva, en dos actos, con libreto de Goffredo Fanti; también escrió varias zarzuelas, operatas y otras composiciones musicales que le dieron justa fama. Falleció en 1966, dejando descendencia.
