Sembra che questa famiglia, di Verona, fosse chiamata inizialmente Guidoni e che assumesse il nome dal luogo della sua abitazione, in città. Essa figura nel campione dell'estimo del 1409 e risulta che, nello stesso anno, fece parte del nobile Consiglio. Le più antiche citazioni documentarie risalgono alla metà del sec. XIII. Un Alberto fu podestà di Milano nel 1235 e da questi partono i rami che si stabilirono, poi, a Pavia, Verona ed in altri luoghi. Ebbe una ragguardevole posizione in Verona sotto gli Scaligeri. Pietro, giureconsulto nel 1335; altro Pietro, canonico nella Cattedrale di Verona nel 1338; altro Pietro ancora fu duce del torneo per le nozze di Antonio della Scala con Samaritana da Polenta; nel 1404 ebbe incarichi onorevoli dal Carrarese, fu creato cavaliere da Francesco Gonzaga, marchese di Mantova, ed ebbe la carica di capitano generale del popolo Veronese e del Comune quando Verona passò sotto il
