Originaria di Borgogna, e detta anticamente Majoli, passò prima a Parma, da dove Uberto Majoli nel XIII secolo la trapiantò in Ferrara. Avendo quivi presa un'abitazione sul sacrato della chiesa di S. Maria Nuova, fu da quell'epoca denominata del Sacrato e quindi Sacrati. Pietro ambasciatore al Pontefice Clemente V nel 1310. Francesco Sacrati, signore di Fusignano, nel 1445 cedette questo castello al march. Leonello d'Este e ne ebbe in cambio la contea di S. Valentino e la fortezza di Gavardo. Giacomo soprintendente nella guerra contro i Veneziani nel 1482; Pietro nel 1474 sposò Lucrezia d'Este nipote del Duca Borso; Ettore, cavaliere e consigliere di Ercole I, fu governatore della Garfagnana, della Bassa Romagna, di Carpi e di Reggio, poi ambasciatore a Massimiliano Sforza e a Francesco I Re di Francia; Laomedonte, famoso giureconsulto del XVI secolo, fu professore di diritto nell'Università di Ferrara ed autore di varie opere di giurisprudenza.
