E' annoverata la famiglia S. tra le famiglie principali di Catalogna, e così la riferisce Giayme Marquilles en las casas Solariegas de Catalunna, e benche ella havesse sempre molti soggetti illustri militari in ogni tempo non fù à niuno inferiore francesco S., che mercè il suo valore, e prudenza indusse al Rè Martino à pacificarsi con i Baroni Chiaramontani di Sicilia, per lo che oltre molti doni n'hebbe anche dal Rè Martino nel 1397 la Terra di Sortino nel Val di Noto, che la diede in dote à sua figlia Elalia moglie di Sancio di Heredia, che litigò il Sancio, non procreò con Giovanne S. suo cognato figlio del detto Francesco, che pretendeva quella Terra, per il che con commune consenso la venderono à Guidon Gaetano, da chi ne vengono i Marchesi di Sortino, e Principi del Cassero.
