Di origine spagnuola e propriapriamente dalla Catalogna dove ebbe il possesso del castello di Potons col titolo di conte, si diramò nel Napoletano, seguendo le armi del gran capitano Consalvo di Cordova. Da Barletta, che fu la prima sua dimora, nel 1520, in Giovinazzo con un Gabriele, che venne aggregato a quella nobiltà. Questi, già vedovo di Aldonsa o Aloisa d'Ala, nobile di Messina, dalla quale aveva avuto, fra gli altri figli, Luigi, pure stabilito in Giovinazzo, sposò, in seconde nozze, Giacoma Orsino dei conti di Pacentro. Da detto Luigi (dec. 1603) e dalla sua consorte Ottavia Vallone nacque Francesco, che sposatosi a Giulia Chiurlia, nobile, pure di Giovinazzo, fu padre di Luigi, scrittore delle memorie storiche delle nobili famiglie di Giovinazzo, e di Cesare e di Prospero, che divisero la famiglia nei due rami tuttora esistenti. Da Cesare nacque un altro Gian Luigi che, sposatosi a Isabella Visconti
