La famiglia, originaria di Romagna e probabilmente di Bagno, venne nei primi del sec. XVI a stabilirsi in Firenze, dove, con provvisione del 15 maggio 1669, ottenne la cittadinanza, e dove occupò importanti cariche a Corte. In seguito a proposta della Magistratura civica di Fiesole i membri ottennero l'ascrizione alla nobiltà di quella città. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile famiglia dell'Emilia Romagna la cui residenza è situata a Cento. Altro ramo. Famiglia di antica e nobile tradizione, originaria di Siena. Altra famiglia alzò per arma. D'azzurro, a due leoni controrampanti d'oro, tenenti insieme un giglio dello stesso; col capo d'Angiò.
