L'Aldimari, nel libro Famiglie Nobili, Napoli, 1691, discorrendo di detta Casa, dice che questa famiglia fu una delle quattro di Castiglia la Vecchia; ed aveva torri e case nel luogo "de Salazar"; e che il primo che si trova col nome attuale, di Castiglia, fu Lope Garzia, "rico hombre grande" del cattolico re D. Bermudo II; e nel 1156 il conte Pedro Garzia. Aggiunge: che alcuni la vogliono discesa da Laino Calvo, ed altri da un Cavaliero delli Goti; e che Lope Garzia, vivente nel 1255, al tempo di re Alfonso il Savio, cavaliere di molto valore, guadagnò ad un cavaliere moro, in battaglia, le 13 stelle dell'arma.
