Uma da famílias mais poderosas de Espanha, que tomou apelido do vale de S., em Castela-a-Velha. No reinado de D. João III passou a Portugal Ventura de Frias S. de quem ficou descendência que continuou o apelido. De Barcelos: família de origem espanhola, descendente de João Rodrigues S., morador no Couto de S. João da Foz, oriundo da Casa dos Salazares, em Castela-a-Velha, e de sua mulher D. Joana Rodriguez Pinheiro. Destes foi filho Lourenço de S. (irmão de Belchior de Salazar, bacharel em Cânones, a 27.5.1580), que c. a 10.2.1597, em S. Pedro do Loureiro, concelho de Penaguião, com D. Isabel de Carvalho Mesquita, filha de Gaspar de Carvalho, sr. da casa da Figueira, em Lamego, e mulher D. Luísa de Mesquita. Foi 4º neto deste casal José da Silva de Araújo de Faria S., sucessor, sr. da casa do Eirado, em Santa Maria de Airão, Guimarães, fidalgo de cota de armas (c. de 8.7.1743), (irmão do Padre Manuel de Araújo da Silva Faria S., fidalgo de cota de armas, c. de 20.10.1738, e do dr. Custódio de S., desembargador, cav. da o. de Cristo, etc., s. g.), que c. com D. Maria Ribeiro Peixoto (sobrinha herdeira de Simão Correia Peixoto, governador da Praça de Vila Nova de Cerveira, com a patente de sargento-Mór, em 1758). Destes foi filho António-José da Silva de Araújo de Faria S., sr. da casa do Eirado, capitão de infantaria na guerra da Sucessão (f. a 26.10.1821), que c. na freg. de S.ta Cristina de Serzedelo, Guimarães, com. D. Maria-Teresa de Araújo da Costa (f. a 3.9.1816).
