Originaria della città di Troia (Capitanata), trapiantata circa il 1490 dai fratelli Giambattista ed Ettore in Matera, dove furono ammessi, con tutti i loro discendenti, all'esercizio delle cariche nobili. Il primo di fatto nel 1518 fu inviato oratore al Papa e all'Imperatore, e dieci anni dopo indusse la città di Matera a dichiararsi pel Re di Francia, e dichiarato perciò ribelle gli furono confiscati i beni e lasciò corraggiosamente la testa sul patibolo. Gabriele, suo figlio, riscattò i beni paterni, fu eletto dei nobili nel 1525 e 1547. Fabrizio, figlio del precedente, tolse in moglie la nobile Artemisia de Angelis vedova di Biagio Gattini, dalla quale, non avendo avuto prole furono instituiti eredi i suoi figliastri Donato e Silvestro Gattini e donò alcune rendite all'ospedale della chiesa di S. Rocco. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile famiglia originaria della Liguria. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia
