Apellido de origen irlandés, establecido en Canarias. Don Juan Antonio S., fue Capitán de Milicias del Regimiento Provincial de Las Palmas y Capitán de los Reales Ejércitos. Nació en 1753 y era hijo del Capitán Don Juan S., Administrador de las Rentas Reales de Gran Canaria y Alcaide del castillo de Santa Catalina, y nieto de Don Francisco S. y Doña Juana Quinland, nobles irlandeses, establecidos en Las Palmas. Don Eduardo S. y Quinland, fue Doctor en Derecho y Sagrada Teología, Arcediano de Fuerteventura, Dignidad de la Santa Iglesia Catedral de Canarias, Gobernador de la Diócesis, Provisor y Vicario General, eclasiástico ilustre, fallecido el 31 de marzo de 1780. Don Juan Antonio S. contrajo matrimonio en la Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pino en Teror, con Doña María del Pino Romero, el 4 de septiembre de 1812. Esta era hija del Capitán de Milicias Don Isidoro Romero de Ceballos y Vivero, Regidor Perpetuo de la Gran Canaria y Síndico Personero General de su Cabildo.
