Este linaje es originario del lugar de Salt (cuyo nombre tomó), perteneciente al partido judicial y provincia de Gerona. Tuvo antigua casa en esa ciudad catalana, se extendió por el Empordà y pasó a Mallorca y Valencia. La familia mallorquina fue fundada en principios del siglo XV y se extinguió en el último tercio del siglo XVIII. A ella pertenecieron: Antonio S., jurado de la ciudad y reino de Mallorca en 1445 y 1455; Rafael S., miembro del grande y general Consejo de la isla por el estamento de ciudadanos; otro Antonio S. que, por seguir el bando de la nobleza, fue muerto por los comuneros, y Juan Odón S., asesor del gobernador del reino en 1684. En 1698 se le nombró regente de Valencia, y allí creó la casa de su apellido, que acabó con doña Margarita S., Cardona, nieta del citado Juan Odón, casada en 1774 con José Luis de los Santos, fiscal de Su Majestad en la Real Audiencia de Mallorca.
