Originaria del luogo di Salvarezza presso Busalla, nel XIV secolo si recò a Genova, ove salì agli uffici importanti di quella repubblica. Nel 1438 Oberto e nel 1450 Carlo furono dei dodici anziani. Nel 1471 Tommaso fu castellano di Pietralata. Nel 1528 questa famiglia fu aggregata all'albergo Giustiniani. In principio del XVII secolo da Giovanni-Stefano fu trapiantata nella città di Noli, ed ebbe anche quivi parte nel governo della piccola repubblica. Altro ramo. Di origine genovese, fu portata in Messina da un Pantaleo Salvarezzo aggregato a quella nobiltà nel 1453. Galeazzo e Giovanni furono consoli di mare, il primo nel 1511 e l'altro nel 1576. Un altro Giovanni era senatore nel 1594, e con esso si estinse la famiglia. Altra famiglia alzò per arma. Partito d'argento e di rosso, al leone coronato dell'uno nell'altro.
