Rama de la ilustre casa Sanseverino y propiamente descendiente de Ruggiero Sanseverino, hijo de Pietro, señor de Martorano, que tomó su nombre actual del feudo que poseía en Calabria, un nombre que perpetuaba a sus descendientes. Incluso bajo este apellido esa ilustre casa tenía nuevas ilustraciones para títulos, oficinas, dignidades y patricios. Disfrutado de que la familia de la nobleza en Cosenza se haya atribuido a ese patricio desde los tiempos más antiguos, en Lecce, y una rama de él extinta hoy, se agregó a la ilustre sede de Portanova en Nápoles. Los miembros de esta familia fueron recibidos, por justicia, en el SMO de Malta, por la rama patricia de Cosenza en 1595, como el cuarto de la familia Rocco (Arch. Ord. Malta, 1686) y luego con Nicolò, en 1668 (Gr. Magistero Roma, Pr. De Nápoles, Proc. 230 y 47); y en 1721 con Guido (Gr. Magistero Roma, Alberi
