Antica ed assai nobile famiglia veneta da Verona scritta San Bonifacio, Sambonifacio o Sanbonifacio si è propagata, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni del Regno. L'avita nobiltà della famiglia Sambonifacio è confermata dalla presenza del blasone nei più autorevoli armoriali Italiani. Di origine germanica e così chiamata dal luogo ove ebbe giurisdizione con titolo comitale fin da tempi assai remoti e derivante da un marchese Milone, conte di Verona nel 923 e che ebbe anche il dominio di Mantova, Cremona e Ravenna. La signoria di Verona fu tenuta anche da Uberto nel 1005 e Bonifacio nel 1073. Furono podestà della città altro Bonifacio nel 1169, Lodovico nel 1211 e Ricciardo nel 1221. Questa familgia, oltre alle signorie e feudi, fu dotata di immense ricchezze ed ebbe notevolissima importanza nelle vicende delle città venete specialmente nei secoli XII e XIII.
