Apellido muy extendido por España y Portugal. Dice Juan Baños de Velasco que en Cataluña radicaron casas de este apellido en el término de San Salvador de Cabrera, del partido judicial de Vilafranca del Penedés. Poseyeron un castillo, por lo que se apellidaron también Mora del Castillo. Otra casa catalana hubo en la ciudad de Cervera (Lérida). Más tarde moraron en la ciudad de Barcelona. Deben ser muy antiguos los Mora del Principado, pues dicen algunos autores que poseían en el siglo octavo el castillo de Mora (debe ser Mora de Ebro, en la provincia de Tarragona), para defenderse de los moros. En 1334 vivía Otón de Mora Cabrera, con armas propias. Fueron también barones de Corbera. Otra casa de labradores hacendados radicó en Sant Vicenç de Llavaneres (Barcelona) y de ella procede la reina Fabiola de Bélgica. Los Mora pasaron a la conquista de Mallorca con la gente del vizconde de Bearne y quedaron heredados en el distrito de Alaró. Jaime Mora, "Miles", intervino en muchos privilegios que otorgó el rey de Mallorca don Jaime II. Pedro Mora, en 1285, prestó sacramento y homenaje al rey don Alonso III de Aragón, como diputado por la villa de Porreras.
