Celebra non poco Marco Giliberto trà le famiglie nobili di Guascogna la famiglia S.M., così chiamata dal dominio d'un Castello di buon vassallagio, ch'ella godè nella medesma Provintia ne' tempi dell'Imperator Carlo Magno, della quale loda un Guglielmo S. M. Vescovo di Bordeus Confessor dell'Imperator lodovico Pio Raimondo di S. M. fù Secretario di Stato del Rè Lotario di Francia. Rinaldo S.M. fù Maestro del Palagio Pontificio di LEONE III e poi Vescovo di Bordeus, e molt'altri di questa chiarissima famiglia in quella celebrata Regione fiorirono; nella quale si scorge questa casa S.M. sotto diverso dominij, mentre altresì leggiamo una famiglia S.M. nella Francia, e una nella Fiandra, quella di Sicilia prese le armi di quando passò da Guascogna in Aragona. Baldassar, e Riccardo S.M., per gravissimi disgusti passorono da Guascogna in Portogallo a' servigi militari del Rè Alfonso Terzo, e poscia del Rè D.Dionisio suo figlio, quindi ambedue lasciarono
