Famiglia oriunda dalla Spagna assai antica e nobile. Originaria della regione di Guipúzcoa e propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diversi paesi d'Europa e delle Americhe. Nei ricordi dei tempi andati si leggono alcune varianti di questo cognome per le solite cause della fonetica storica e del modo di interpretare la scrittura, San Andrés, Sanandres etc. sono tutti rami di un unico ceppo.
