Por ser na origem patronímico esta designação familiar há muitas linhagens com o mesmo nome, mas provenientes de diversos Sanchos. De João Rodrigues Valejo e de sua mulher Isabel Alvares Sánchez, foi filho Pedro Alvares Sánchez, cavaleiro principal da linhagem do Sánchez da Estremadura, eu viveu em Albuquerque e depois em Vial Viçosa e era pai de Gil Álvares S., o qual se casou com D. Guiomar de Landim, moça da câmara da Duquesa de Bragança, filha de Fernão Rodrigues de Landim de Estremoz. Este Gil Álvares era cavaleiro da Ordem de Sant'Iago, natural de Albuqerque, e por um crime cometido passou a Vila Viçosa, recolhendo-se à protecção do Duque de Bragança D. Jaime, a quem acompanhou a África, estando com ele em 1513 na tomada de Azamor com armas, cavalos e homens à sua custa. Do casamento de Gil Álvares com D. Guiomar de Landim ficou geração que continuou a chamar-se S. e da qual o ramo primogénito se uniu aos Baenas originando a família S. de Baena.
