Antiquísima Casa-Solar vizcaína, de Pariente Mayor y una de las fundadoras del Señorío de Vizcaya. Durante la Edad Media y en las Guerras Banderizas que ensangrentaron el país vascongado aparecen constantemente miembros de esta familia, cuyo Pariente Mayor fué, durante algún tiempo, jefe del bando oñacino. La Casa de S. fué una de las diezmeras de la Colegiada de Cenarruza, copatrona por sí y como heredera del Solar de Susúnaga, de la parroquia de San Juan de Sondica. El otro copatrono era el jefe de la Casa de Asúa, que es linaje del mismo origen. Cuando don Diego López de Haro V. Señor de Vizcaya, funda en 1300 la villa de Bilbao, será un S. el que realizará materialmente el hecho de la fundación de la futura capital de Vizcaya. Entre los linajes que se apresuran a poblar en Bilbao se destaca, en primer término, el Señor de la Torre
