Trasse l'origine e il nome da Sanminiatello, terra dell'antico dominio della repubblica di Firenze. Venuti a Pisa vi goderono i primi onori della città e sederono per ben 56 volte priori del Popolo e del Comune. Nel 1691 Orazio di Antonvincenzo fu uno dei riformatori della città. Instituita da Cosimo I la Religione di S. Stefano, fondarono il baliato di Modigliana, permutandone più tardi il nome con quello di Pisa. La famiglia conta 9 bali e un gran numero di cavalieri per giustizia. Molti di questi militarono nelle galere dell'Ordine ed ebbero fama di prodi: massime Cosimo-Andrea seniore.
