Famiglia fanese ma oriunda di Sassoferrato. La tradizione vuole che discenda dal celebre giureconsulto "Bartolo da Sassoferrato" a cui l'imperatore Carlo V, il 14 giugno 1355, concesse la nobiltà e l'arma seguente: "D'oro al leone rampante di rosso con la coda bifida". Però finora non si è trovato alcun documento sicuro che comprovi questa discendenza. pare che un ramo con a capo Giov. Battista I.V.D. nel 1500 si sia stabilito a Portogruaro nel Friuli, estinguendosi nel 1720. Capostipite certo del ramo di Fano è un Barnabeo, vivente nel 1500 circa, il cui figlio perfetto, morì nel 1562, lasciando parecchi figli fra i quali Federico giureconsulto; Andrea, capitano; Sigismondo imparentato coi conti della Genga; e Gian Battista giureconsulto. Quest'ultimo si stabilì a Fano nel maggio 1580 e ne ottenne la cittadinanza; dalla moglie Vittoria, di Giacomo Lucci, da Sassoferrato, ebbe Perfetto, che nel 1631 circa, sposò Diana, di Giovan Francesco Agostis,
