Proceden de Cataluña. Pasaron a Mallorca y tierras aragonesas. En éstas se castellanizó el apellido y se apellidaron San Clemente. Es linaje antiguo con nobles ramas radicadas en Lérida, Barcelona y Gerona. Enlazaron con distinguidas familias catalanas, entre otras las de Descoll, Cassador, Corbera, Barones de Llinás, Blanes, Pons, Turell, Fernández Heredia, Icart, Desprats y Perapertusa. A la Orden de San Juan, en el Gran Priorato de Cataluña, pertenecieron varios caballeros y señoras de este linaje en los siglos XV, XVI y XVII. De la rama de Mallorca fueron: Francisco S. Climent, que en el año 1336 y como Embajador del Rey de Mallorca, se entrevistó con el de Aragón para resolver las diferencias que ambos monarcas tenían con la Señoría de Génova, y Fadrique S. Climent, caballero mallorquín muy principal, que sirvió lealmente al Emperador Carlos V, como Gobernador de Menorca, durante las revueltas de los comuneros.
