Ancient and very noble family of Spanish origin, established on the island of Malta even before it was subjected to the dominion of the knights of St. John of Jerusalem, which spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy and the world. The members of this house had eminent positions and offices, served the Gerosolimitan Order with talent and fidelity and many signaled themselves in battle, in defense of the Island from the Turks. Publio-Maria Sant was first Bishop of Lavada, then of Malta and finally Archbishop of Rhodes. By Frederick of Aragon king of Sicily, with a diploma dated 12 November 1372, the Santes were declared barons of Gariescem and Tabia; fiefdoms confirmed by the Grand Master of the Gerosolimitano Order Lascaris de Castellar, on April 1st 1638. His Majesty The Empress Maria-Teresa, with diploma March 30th 1768, appointed them barons Fournier de Pausier for the Austrian Empire;
