Originaria di Messina, servì il partito angioino; ma caduta la Sicilia sotto gli Aragonesi, passò a Napoli nella persona di Michele Santore, il quale fu quivi decorato del cingolo militare. Nicola Santore, figlio del precedente, si trasferì a Taranto, dove sposò la nobile Francesca Faccipecora, e fu aggregato alla nobiltà tarantina. Nel 1507 Ferdinando il Cattolico prorogò a Pompeo ed a suo figlio Antonio una pensione di 50 once d'oro sopra i Fiscalari della provincia d'Otranto che, dal re Ferdinando, suo predecessore, era stata concessa ad Antonio, padre di esso Pompeo in rimunerazione dei servigi prestati tanto da esso Antonio, quanto da Nicola suo padre. La presenza dell'arma e del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia Santore ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta dalla casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei
