Alte und berühmte Familie, ursprünglich aus Matera, deren erste Überreste aus dem Jahr 1198 stammen, dem Jahr, in dem Eustachio Santoro, Baron von Cancellara, Castelnuovo und Casale di SM di Giambove, lebte. Der Matera-Historiker Gattini erwähnt dann andere notarielle Urkunden, in denen nach etwa anderthalb Jahrhunderten die Namen anderer Familienmitglieder gelesen werden: 1402 wird in einem Akt des Notars Tuccio de Rahone Stefano erwähnt, von Giovanni de Santoro; 1432 lasen wir in einem Akt des Notars Giovannuzzo de Berardo den Namen von Nicola Giovanni di Santoro; 1476 war Toto Santoro Bürgermeister von Matera, aus dem Pietro und Lorenzo geboren wurden, von denen letzterer Caterina de Angelis heiratete, von der er vier Kinder hatte: Vincenza, die einen Del Duce heiratete; Laura, die Alfonso Mantoia heiratete; Giustina heiratete Leonardo d'Aurilia und schließlich Agostino, der Priester wurde.
