Por decreto do royal motu proprio de 3 de agosto de 1909 e cartas de licença reais de 17 de maio de 1912, Francesco Santucci de Carlo obteve a renovação do título de conde da família materna Fontanelli; cujo sobrenome ele adicionou. A família Fontanelli, originária de Reggio Emilia, transplantou para Modena em 1717. Até 1380, Guido Fontanelli tinha a cidadania de Mântua e recebeu o título de conde em 1434 pelo imperador Sigismondo. Em 1612 Alfonso Maria, obtido do duque Alfonso, o feudo de San Donnino com o título de marquês. Giulio, conselheiro e mordomo do duque Ferdinando Gonzaga, também foi investido no feudo de Fubino com o título de marquês. Alfonso, foi governador civil e militar dos ducados de Massa e Carrara: Aquiles, um dos homens mais premiados do império napoleônico, foi criado conde do império francês e conde do reino da Itália.
