Antichissima famiglia, la quale riconosce per capostipite un Bartolomeo, fiorentino, che, sullo scorcio del XVI secolo, esule da Firenze, riparò alla Gorga, dove la sua famiglia si divise in due rami, uno dei quali estinto nel cardinale Vincenzo, creato nel 1853. L'altro ramo si trasferì a Velletri, dove il conte Carlo fu maggiore onorario della cittadina milizia e cameriere segreto del Sommo pontefice Pio VII. Suo figlio, Luigi, membro per Velletri per la Consulta di stato, poi cosigliere di stato di Pio IX, si stabilì a Roma. Da lui nacque il conte Carlo, il quale ebbe da Sua Santità Leone XIII, confermato il titolo comitale ereditario, con Breve motu proprio, dell'agosto 1885. La famiglia Santucciu, patrizia veliterna, fu ascritta al patriziato di Ascoli Piceno nel 1859, per le benemerenze di monsignor Gian Battista, fratello di Luigi, delegato apostolico in Ascoli, poi commendatore di Santo Spirito.
