Il cavalier Gioacchino, nobile spagnuolo, nato a Ceuta in Africa, brigadiere nelle truppe, scudiere maggiore e gentiluomo di camera del duca di Modena Ercole III, stabilì la famiglia in Modena. Fin dal 15 ottobre 1763 aveva ottenuto per sè e discendenti la cittadinanza nobile modenese. Il 7 settembre 1795 la Comunità di Reggio Emilia gli concedeva il titolo di patrizio reggiano per sè e discendenza maschile. Il figlio suo, cavalier Giuseppe, veniva ascritto al rinnovato Ordine Conservatorio ed al Libro d'Oro di Modena con decreto dei Conservatori e del Podestà in data 2 luglio 1816. La famiglia è iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano coi titoli di patrizio di Modena (m.), patrizio di Reggio (m.), in persona di Francesco, di Carlo, di Giuseppe, nato il 27 settembre 1871.
