Antica e potente famiglia, le cui prime memorie rimontano al 1177 in cui un Guglielmo trovasi ricordato in una carta di permuta passata fra il monastero di Lavino ed i conti di Ventimiglia. Un altro Guglielmo nel 1238 si pose a capo de' suoi concittadini per respingere l'attacco dei Genovesi contro i Ventimiglia, ma riusciti questi vincitori, egli dovette pagare del capo la sua ardita e generosa impresa. Francesco era fra gli anziani del Comune nel 1220; Iacopo tra i riformatori degli statuti nel 1288; Francesco fra i riformatori dell'erbatico nel 1303. Pietro, insieme alle sue figlie Violante e Manfredina, il 10 gennaio 1351 vendeva al potente cavaliere Carlo Grimaldi, signore di Monaco e di Mentone, due terre poste a Mortora nel territorio di Ventimiglia.
