Famiglia di origine remote che si riattacca agli antichi signori di Breo e di Romanisio. Era una delle dodici famiglie di Fossano, dette di piazza, le quali avevano contribuito alla fondazione di questa città. Si formarono molte linee di questa famiglia, essendosi largamente diramata. La linea a dei conti di Moriondo origina da Bra e inizia la sua genealogia con nessi sicuri con Giovanni Guglielmo, vivente a metà del secolo XVI. Il feudo di Moriondo entrò nella famiglia in persona di Antonio, di Giulio Cesare, che fu senatore, e che sposò in seconde nozze il 9 agosto 1761 Maria Elena Rosalia unigenita di Carlo Giuseppe Faletti, erede ed investita con titolo signorile il 31 maggio 1773 di porzioni della cascina feudale con giurisdizione di Moriondo. Figlio di questi Giulio Cesare (n. Nizza, 1759, deceduto Torino I aprile 1841), che fu dottore di legge decurione, chiavaro e sindaco
