A seguito d'analoga proposta del Magistrato Civico Cortonese, un Rescritto Granducale del 24 novembre 1842 conferiva la nobiltà di Cortona al nobile irlandese cattolico, cavalier barone Tommaso Francesco, che dal 1829 al 1842 aveva dimorato a Lucca in qualità di ciambellano di Sovrana Risoluzione Austriaca l'Infante Carlo Ludovico di Borbone, duca di Lucca, meritando la più alta stima e considerazione per la sua condotta politica morale e civile, come avevano concordemente attestato l'arcivescovo e il direttor generale di polizia di Lucca opportunamente interpellati dal governo toscano. La famiglia è iscritta nell'EIenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano col titolo di nobile di Cortona (mf.), in persona di disc. di Francesco Tommaso.
