Famiglia d'origine meranese che ebbe la nobiltà del Sacro Romano Impero con diploma dato a Regensburgo il 18 giugno 1591 a Davide Wagner, che era consigliere arciducale a Innsbruck. Il 27 settembre 1650 altro Davide ebbe il titolo di Barone dei Paesi ereditari austriaci col predicato di Sarenthein, essendo entrato per acquisto in possesso della Kellerburg in val Sarentino. I fratelli Davide e Lodovico, nonchè i loro cugini Carlo, Francesco, Domenico e Giuseppe vennero elevati al grado di Conti del Sacro Romano Impero con diploma del 12 dicembre 1681, che concesse loro l'abbandono del cognome di Wagner e l'assunzione a cognome del predicato di Sarnthein. Lo stesso diploma modificò lo stemma di famiglia. Maria Luigi Ferdinando, fu magistrato esimio, consigliere intimo e Ciambellano imperiale. Inquartato: nel primo e quarto di rosso alla fascia d'argento carica di un leone illeopardito di rosso, coronato d'oro; nel secondo e terzo d'azzurro alla testa e collo di cervo d'oro movente dalla troncatura: sul tutto uno scudetto d'azzurro al cane levriere rampante d'argento sormontato d sette stelle di sei raggi d'oro poste in semicerchio. Cimiero: Due, su elmi torneari: Il primo un uomo sbracciato vestito di rosso e coronato d'oro; il secondo la testa di cervo dello stemma con la croce potenziata di rosso fra le corna.
