Questa famiglia è originaria di S. Agata Bolognese. Da S. Agata i membri della famiglia passarono a Bologna al principio del sec. XIX, in persona di Filippo Giacomo, che sposatosi con Sofia Tomba, generò Achille, che al proprio aggiunse il cognome materno. Questi compiuti gli studi giuridici, si diede ai pubblici negozi, acquistandosi, per la sua integrità, bella fama. Fu consigliere comunale e provinciale, ottimo e sagace amministratore di molte opere pie e di beneficenza. Da Pio IX con Breve del 25 luglio 1873, fu creato marchese, con diritto di trasmissibilità per ordine di primogenitura. Sposò Bianca dei conti De' Bianchi di Bologna, da cui nacquero: Giuseppe Guido, il 2 marzo 1867, cameriere segreto di spada e cappa di S. Santità, dottore in giurisprudenza, defunto; Filippo Giacomo, nato a Bologna il 24 aprile 1871, comm, di S. Gregorio Magno, cavaliere della Legione d'Onore, cameriere segreto di spada e cappa di
