Antica ed illustre famiglia campana, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, essa discende dalla nobile famiglia genovese Sauli, nota sin dal XIII secolo ed ascritta nel libro d'oro di Genova fin dal 1528. La famiglia Sauli ha largamente diramato, trovandosi sue linee in Bologna, Ceva e Forlì. Un ramo poi, verso il calare del XVII secolo, vuolsi si sia portato in Capua per ragioni di commercio, ivi stabilendosi e nel tempo mutando il cognome in Saulle, forse per errore di trascrizione, forse per ragioni di fonetica dialettale. In ogni modo, la famiglia Saulle appare di notabile estrazione in Capua proprio a partire dal tardo XVII secolo e successivamente iniziano a comparire anche le linee di Salerno e Avellino.
