Con la pace separata del 6 marzo 1176 Federico Barbarossa restituiva alla giurisdizione tortonese le terre confiscate nel 1155 e fra queste Savignone; la famiglia viscontile che ne reggeva le sorti e che del luogo stesso assunse il nome fu costretta, volente o nolente a sottomettersi, come d'altronde tutti i castellani del contado, al comune di Tortona in via di emancipazione, teso al consolidamento della propria potestà; difatti capovitello, Girardo e Oggero il 1 giugno 1207 prestano giuramento di fedeltà ai consoli tortonesi; in precedenza però Lanfranco di Savignone doveva ricoprire qualche importante ufficio poichè il 10 luglio 1183 presenzia come teste all'intesa concordata tra i consoli ed il vescovo di Tortona in merito alla terra di Dernice per la qual si ritiene fossero insorte delle divergenze, nonchè in atto del 22 seguente con cui allo stesso presule è ceduto il fodro di alcune località; inoltre il 18 aprile
