Lo storico Carlo Tonini affermava che la famiglia è oriunda da Cesena da dove sarebbe fuggita a Rimini intorno al 1150, in seguito alle lotte tra guelfi e ghibellini. In una pergamena della Civica Biblioteca Gambalunga di Rimini, del 4 maggio 1224, un Pietro Savini, compare giudice di mercato. Cristoforo, di Pietro, viveva in Rimini ove sposò Francesca Angolanti ed ebbe il 5 gennaio 1619, Pietro Giovanni, il quale prese in moglie Rosalba Cisterni, da cui gli nacque, il 27 ott. 1645. Francesco Maria. Questi, nel sett. 1687, fu padre di Giovanni Francesco, che spossò Francesca Germani, dalla quale ebbe Domenico Antonio, merito di Orsola Rolli e padre di Giuseppe Antonio, nato nel 1742. Quest'ultimo fu valente magistrato e coprì in patria varie cariche pubbliche; fu reggitore della comunità di Comacchio sotto il regno Napoleonico e gonfaloniere di Rimini.
