La Consulta Araldica, con Decreto Ministeriale in data 24 marzo 1927 a V., firmato da S.E. Mussolini dichiarava spettare a tale famiglia, il titolo di: Conte dei castelli di Roccia Leonella e Montegrino e dover egli essere iscritto nel libro d'oro araldico degli Enti morali. Tale signoria comitale ha origine antichissima. Gli annalisti ne parlano come esistente prima del 1000, anche per il fatto che si ha memoria di essere stati dati tali castelli in enfiteusi nel 1107, alla potente e nobile famiglia dei conti Brancaleoni di Piobbico. Dunque dato che il canone era il solito e che l'enfiteusi era per tre generazioni, si può ben dire che andiamo a prima del 1000. Nell'Archivio Capitolare conservasi altra investitura di Brancaleoni, rinnovata nel 1317.
