In un elenco delle famiglie nobili fiorenti in Tortona, dell'anno 1293 e pubblicato poi a Milano nel 1503, il senatore Agostino Guidobono include i Scaglioso, come famiglia d'avita nobiltà. Di questo casato è ricordato, per le sue opere storico-biografiche, il padre Gerolamo Scaglioso dell'ordine degli Eremitani di S.Agostino di Tortona vissuto, tra il XVI ed il XVII secolo ai tempi di Nicolò Montemerlo, e da questi frequentato e menzionato nella sua "Storia di Tortona"; storia che si arresta al 1612 ed eredita nel 1618 per cui lo Scaglioso non poteva essere nato nel 1660 come asserisce il Goggi e tanto meno morire il 16 giugno 1742, ossia due secoli dopo la sua presunta nascita, come ci informa con tanta micidiale precisione il Carnevale. Egli fu anche un apprezzato docente di filosofia, presso il convento della S. Trinità di Tortona e lasciò eruditi scritti tra i quali "Dell'origine e dei fasti
