Antica ed illustre famiglia di Sassari, detta anche Scano di Castelvy, le cui prime memorie rimandano al XVI secolo. Tal casato, infatti, impiantò in detta città una celebre tipografia, che fu operativa dal 1632 al 1681. La famiglia Scanni, inoltre, risulta anche compresa nell'elenco dei feudatari, nobili e cavalieri residenti nei comuni della Prefettura della provincia di Sassari, compilato nel 1822, dal Regio Prefetto e trasmesso alla Regia Segreteria di stato e di guerra, presso il vicerè di Sardegna, in occasione dell'incoronazione del re Carlo Felice. Ivi, infatti è compreso il nome di don Giuseppe Luigi Scano, dimorante a Sorso, discendente da antica e nobile famiglia della Sardegna. Sposò questi Anna Maria Cicu. Uno dei suoi figli, don Antonio, nato a Sorso 15 novembre 1821, restò in Sorso ed ebbe i figli: Giuseppe, Pietro, Maria, Chiara, Antonia e Francesca. L'altro, don Clemente, nato a Sorso il 4 novembre 1808,
