Una delle 24 famiglie d'Aqui che tenevano il governo della città, della quale erano consiglieri un Guglielmo nel 1447, uno Stefano nel 1567, un Paolo nel 1589, un capitano Girolamo, che sottoscriveva nel 1567 gli statuti comunali. Comincia da lui la genealogia sicura della famiglia, illustrata dal ramo oggi estinto dei conti di Ciglione e Castelrocchero e più particolarmente del ramo marchionale oggi ancora degnamente rappresentato. Questo ramo ha per autore il capitano Gregorio, investito di Toletto e Piancastagna il 21 giugno 1694 con titolo comitale, padre del conte Stefano, che sposava Lucrezia Casaleggio di Montalto, da cui l'aggiunta del cognome di Casaleggio. Dal loro matrimonio nasceva l'8 aprile 1685, Paolo Girolamo, marito di Clara Eleonora dei marchesi Biandrate, di Foglizzo, da cui Stefano, il primo marchese della famiglia, insignito di tale titolo anche come transazione di vertenza con
