Eine alte Adelsfamilie aus Bagnoregio, von klarer und angestammter Tugend, die sich im Laufe der Jahrhunderte weltweit verbreitet hat. Zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts zog die Familie mit Bischof Stefano Scerra (Civitella d'Agliano, 24. Dezember 1775 - Rom, Januar 1859), Bischof von Orope, Erzbischof von Ancyra und Sekretär der Heiligen Kongregation der Geistlichen, nach Viterbo Immunity und sein Bruder Coronato. Die Söhne des letzteren waren der Rechtsanwalt Ludovico, Carlo, Bonaventura und Luisa. Mit Maria, Tochter von Carlo und Ehefrau von Leopoldo Signorelli, wurde die Familie mit der Adelsfamilie Signorelli verwandt. Die Scerra waren wohlhabende Landbesitzer, und in Viterbo befindet sich eine kleine Kirche, die der Unbefleckten Empfängnis und den Heiligen Isidoro und Rocco gewidmet ist, auf dem Landgut Santa Caterina an der toskanischen Straße, das am 14. Oktober 1858 von Bischof Stefano erbaut und geweiht wurde Das Wappen der Familie ist durch vertraute Erinnerungen überliefert und so wird es beschrieben:
