Antigua una familia noble de Bagnoregio, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido por todo el mundo, a lo largo de los siglos. A principios del siglo XIX la familia se traslada a Viterbo, con el obispo Stefano Scerra (Civitella d'Agliano, 24 de diciembre de 1775 - Roma, enero de 1859), obispo de Orope, arzobispo de Ancyra y secretario de la Sagrada Congregación de Iglesias Eclesiásticas. Inmunidad, y su hermano Coronato. Los hijos de este último fueron el abogado Ludovico, Carlo, Bonaventura y Luisa. Con María, hija de Carlo y esposa de Leopoldo Signorelli, la familia se emparentó con la noble familia Signorelli.
