Ancient an noble family from Bagnoregio, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. At the beginning of the nineteenth century the family moved to Viterbo, with the bishop Stefano Scerra (Civitella d'Agliano, December 24, 1775 - Rome, January 1859), bishop of Orope, arcbishop of Ancyra and secretary of the Sacred Congregation of Ecclesiastical Immunity, and his brother Coronato. The sons of the latter were the lawyer Ludovico, Carlo, Bonaventura and Luisa. With Maria, daughter of Carlo and wife of Leopoldo Signorelli, the family became related to the noble Signorelli family. The Scerra were wealthy landowners and in Viterbo there is a small church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and the saints Isidoro and Rocco, in the Santa Caterina estate on the Tuscanese road, built and consecrated by the said bishop Stefano, on 14 October 1858.
